Peak wait times at Sea-Tac drop by 10 minutes as private contractors help at security lines, port says

SEATTLE-TACOMA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT -- Peak wait times at Sea-Tac were down by 10 minutes Monday as up to 90 private contractors started work to help ease long security lines, the Port of Seattle said.

Port spokesman Brian DeRoy said the contractors help with line management and areas right before the TSA X-ray screening, such as making sure travelers take off their shoes and don't have water bottles before the screening.

"We were pleased with how things went today," DeRoy said. "Of course, it's a work in progress and were cautiously optimistic for later this week, which will see record traveler numbers" for the Memorial Day weekend.

More than a half-million passengers are expected to pass through Sea-Tac this coming holiday weekend. The busiest day is projected to be Friday, May 27, with about 145,000 passengers -- that's 25,000 more than last Friday.
