Man shot found in apartment complex stairwell in Seattle's First Hill

Police are investigating a shooting that happened early Friday morning at an apartment complex in Seattle's First Hill neighborhood.

What we know:

According to the Seattle Police Department, a report of a shooting was received by a dispatcher at 2:20 a.m. Officers responded to the scene in the 800 block of Spring Street, where they discovered a 37-year-old man in the building's stairwell with a gunshot wound to the hip area.

Police said a passerby found the victim on the 13th floor and immediately called 911.

Officers administered aid until Seattle Fire Department personnel arrived. The victim was then transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.

What we don't know:

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are still under investigation.

Currently, no suspect is in custody. The Gun Violence Reduction Unit is leading the investigation.
