Deadly shooting involving Bellevue, WA officer under investigation
BELLEVUE, Wash. - An investigation is underway after a police officer was involved in a shooting that happened in Bellevue on Monday.
The Bellevue Police Department (BPD) made the initial announcement on social media just after 1 p.m.
According to BPD Officer Seth Tyler, at around 9:50 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call near the corner of 120th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 42nd Court.
The Independent Force Investigative Team – King County says the initial call was a report of harassment with a knife.
Two hours after making contact with the suspect, at 12:28 p.m., an on-duty officer was involved in a "deadly force incident." A 67-year-old man died as a result.
No other police officers or bystanders were injured.
It's currently unknown if the man was armed or if he lived in the area.
"This is a safe neighborhood, it’s a safe city, this is very unusual for this to happen in Bellevue," Officer Tyler said.
The King County Independent Force Investigation Team (KCIFIT) will lead the investigation. The officer involved will be placed on administrative leave pending investigation.
