A strong atmospheric river remains over the Pacific Northwest, bringing heavy rain, record level flooding and dangerous conditions.

The second round of heavy rain will send several area rivers over major flood stage Wednesday through Friday, bringing historic floods to some spots.

It will be a wet morning for the Puget Sound, causing local river levels to rise, and leading to moderate to major flooding in some areas.

The second round of a one-two punch hits Tuesday evening, as heavy rain and strong winds return to the area.

Eastside Fire & Rescue is preparing for potential flooding this week by breaking out the rescue boats, with crews on standby to respond to water emergencies.

A rain break is expected Tuesday morning, with mostly cloudy skies. Rivers will decrease in levels due to this dry period, but then increase again as more rain is expected Tuesday night into Wednesday.

An atmospheric river will send two rounds of heavy rain into western Washington this week, along with breezy winds.

Bottom line: there are four consecutive Weather Alert Days from tomorrow (Monday) to Thursday. There will be moderate river flooding, isolated major flooding, with the worst of it on Tuesday. Minor street flooding in urban areas is likely at many points in the coming days. 

While it'll be breezy and damp at times this weekend, much stormier weather is forecast by Monday.
