The autumnal equinox is just around the corner for Washingtonians. With this, the likelihood of northern lights displays will increase--though chances remain slim.

With more than a third of an inch of rain as of earlier this morning at Sea-Tac Airport, this is one of the wettest days in the area since the middle of April! The wet weather will be somewhat short-lived as drier skies return by late Sunday. 

An incoming cold front will bring early morning rain to much of the region on Sunday.  While much of Sunday afternoon will be drier, a few isolated showers will be possible.  Rainfall amounts will range from about .50-1" in the mountains and along the coast to about .25-.50 in the interior lowlands. 

On this final weekend of summer, we're forecasting dry skies on Saturday with the return of sloppy pockets early Sunday. Earlier Seattle sunsets are on the horizon before clocks “fall back.”

The phenomenon, known as a gigantic jet, is a Transient Luminous Event (TLE) and looks like upside-down red lightning.

Temperatures Saturday will be similar to Friday's, reaching the low to mid 70s.

It will be dry and warm Friday and Saturday, but widespread rain will hit Western Washington late Saturday night.

A few morning clouds will give way to mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 70s.

A tsunami threat was issued Thursday afternoon following a 7.8-magnitude earthquake off the east coast of Russia.

Thursday in Seattle will be mostly sunny with temperatures close to normal for this time of year.

Highs will be in the upper 60s to low 70s on Thursday with mostly sunny skies in the afternoon.
