Western Washington experienced quite a foggy morning once again, but the fog diminished faster than yesterday: that's due to an approaching system that is helping to mix up the atmosphere somewhat. Still, fog lingered for some of the Puget Sound waters for much of the morning. In these communities where temperatures were at or below freezing earlier today, icy roads were a real concern.

US 2 reopens ahead of schedule from Skykomish, WA to Steven Pass Ski Resort
US Highway 2 reopened near Skykomish to Stevens Pass at 6 a.m. on Jan. 1, earlier than expected, after crews finished clearing debris and repairs. The reopening is a major boost for local businesses, which saw steep losses during the nearly three-week closure and are now preparing for returning traffic. Delays and restrictions remain east of Stevens Pass, with pilot cars, detours, and up to hour-long waits, and a full restoration is still months away with no firm timeline.
