An impactful shot of snow and ice will blast through the Northeast set to dump snow threatening post-Christmas holiday travel at major airports and highways across the region.

Highs in the mid to low 40s, a few degrees below seasonal average. Scattered showers and mountain snow, possible late lower snowflakes.

Christmas Day started off relatively calm with isolated showers. Heading into the overnight hours, up to a foot of snow will roll into the mountain regions for a much needed snowpack boost.

A quiet and calm Christmas Eve is forecast around Western Washington.  Lighter winds with mainly dry skies overnight.  Some evening cloud breaks will allow for chilly overnight lows in the 30s. 

In the morning, the strongest winds are focused over the Cascade gaps (e.g. North Bend and Enumclaw). We've seen forceful gusts to 60+ mph over Crystal Mountain and the South Cascades.

The city of Pacific held a meeting Tuesday night to talk about what happened during this month's destructive flooding and to discuss resources for residents. 

A High Wind Warning and Wind Advisory will go into effect Wednesday morning through the evening for strong damaging wind gusts.

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) is warning customers that a significant windstorm moving toward the area could potentially cause power outages this holiday week.

Strong winds are sticking around Western Washington into Christmas Eve, but Christmas Day is looking quiet.

A few early lingering showers mainly along the coast, but we will see more sunbreaks into the afternoon.
